You shoud create Google Analytics Website Profiles to track specific traffic segments. Not all traffic segments behave the same way on your website. Think of the purpose of a new visitors compared to a returning visitor; they both have different objectives on your website.
Here is a list of the basic website profiles you should setup:
- New Visitor
- Returning Visitor
- Organic Visits
- Google Adwords
- Email Visits
- Referral Visits
Create New Visitor Filter in Google Analytics Configuration
You will need to create a new website profile and apply a new visitor filter which will only include new visitor traffic in your profile.

Create Returning Visitor Filter in Google Analytics Configuration
You will need to create a new website profile and apply a returning visitor filter which will only include returning visitor traffic in your profile.

Create Organic Visits Filter in Google Analytics Setup
You will need to create a new website profile and apply a returning visitor filter which will only include organic traffic in your profile.

Create Google Adwords Filter in Google Analytics Configuration
This configuration is trickier. You will first need to create a Google Only filter and then apply a Google Adwords only filter in your Google Adwords website profile. The ordering of the 2 filters in important.
